Elections NZ has officially announced the final results for mandate ratification for Ngāti Hāua iwi based in Taumarunui in the Central North Island (click here to read more Ngati Haua_Mandate Proposal Ratification 2017_ Final Result).

Ngāti Hāua Iwi Trust is now mandated to represent Ngāti Hāua in negotiations with the Crown for the comprehensive settlement of all of the historical Treaty of Waitangi claims of Ngāti Hāua. It is one of four, Large Natural Groups (LNG) in the Whanganui River District.

A hui a iwi will be held at Ngāpuwaiwaha Marae tomorrow to update uri of Ngāti Hāua on the next phase. Elections for a new trustee to fill a vacant position on the Ngāti Hāua Iwi Trust will also be held.

Ngāti Hāua are known as the people of Tuhua living within the Tuhua District. This area traditionally extended both north and south of the upper Whanganui river, in the vicinity of Te Kahui Maunga and the Taumarunui area and as far south to the sea.
